Vietnam veteran David J. Majeski to deliver keynote at Nov. 11 Veterans Day Breakfast

BENSENVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 20, 2026) — Vietnam veteran David J. Majeski, who served two tours in Vietnam in 1966-67, will share his story of military service and dedication to his country as the keynote speaker at the annual Veterans Day Breakfast from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the White Pines Golf Club Banquet Hall, 500 W. Jefferson St., Bensenville.

A Bensenville resident and member of VFW Wood Dale Post 2149 since 2017, Majeski served in the U.S. Navy during a career that began in 1963. Following boot camp, he pursued specialized training in intercommunications, submarine operations and nuclear power before receiving orders for assignments aboard Navy vessels serving in the Pacific.

Before reporting to the aircraft carrier USS Constellation (CV-64), Majeski spent three months in South Vietnam aboard an ammunition ship in Corps I and the Mekong Delta region, helping supply sailors and Marines with ammunition. He later served two years aboard the Constellation, working in electronics and nuclear weapons and supporting the ship’s pilot landing system. He completed his military service in August 1967.

Majeski has continued his commitment to fellow veterans through his involvement with VFW Wood Dale Post 2149, where he served as adjutant and trustee and was selected as grand marshal in 2024. His experiences offer a firsthand perspective on military service and the lasting importance of recognizing those who have served the nation.

The Bensenville Park District, Village of Bensenville and Fenton High School are partnering to host the breakfast in honor of active-duty military members and veterans. The event also will feature presentations by winners of the Fenton Defending Freedom Essay Contest, giving students an opportunity to share their reflections on service, sacrifice and patriotism.

Sponsored by The UPS Store of Bensenville-Wood Dale, the complimentary breakfast is open to in-district veterans, their widows and a guest, as well as Healthy Minds Healthy Bodies participants.

“Veterans Day is an important reminder that the freedoms enjoyed every day come with a tremendous sacrifice,” said Bensenville Park District Executive Director Joseph C. Vallez. “Taking the time to thank veterans for their service is one small way the community can show its appreciation for their courage, commitment and dedication to protecting our country. Thanks to The UPS Store for its generous support.”

The Bensenville Park District, Village of Bensenville and Fenton High School invite the community to join in recognizing Majeski and the men and women who have served and continue to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. Advance registration is required by Monday, Nov. 2, at the Deer Grove Leisure Center, 1000 W. Wood St., Bensenville. Attendees must register by calling 630-766-7015. Space is limited.
